The Bagamoyo African Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is a private higher learning institution with a strong commitment to transforming minds through quality education, innovation, and practical skills development in science, technology, business, and management.
Founding & Early Concept (2022–2024)

- The idea for the Bagamoyo African Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was first developed in 2022 in response to a growing need for skilled professionals in science, technology, business, management, and innovation in Tanzania and beyond.
- Founders, Primarily medical professionals and educators envisioned an institution rooted in excellence, integrity, and real‑world impact, with a strong focus on practical skills, critical thinking, and leadership.
Official Establishment (2025)
2025 - January
- After three years of strategic planning, curriculum design, research, and stakeholder engagement, BIST was formally established as a private higher learning institution in 2025.
- The Institute is registered with the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET) under registration number REG/NACTVET/1185 — meaning it meets national requirements to deliver certificate and diploma programmes.
Academic & Institutional Development (2025–Present)
2025 – Present
- From its first year, BIST started developing academic programmes that balance theory with practical, hands‑on training, designed with input from educators, industry experts, policymakers, and the local community.
- Its curriculum aims to prepare students not just with knowledge, but with real‑world problem‑solving and entrepreneurial skills.
- The Institute emphasises science, technology, business, management, and innovation, preparing graduates to address contemporary challenges and contribute to sustainable development.
Campus & Growth (2025–2026)
2025 - 2026
- BIST is located in historic Bagamoyo — a coastal town with a rich cultural heritage — providing a scenic yet intellectually stimulating environment for learning and research.
- The campus includes modern classrooms, laboratories, and facilities supporting practical training across several fields such as human medicine, engineering, IT, agriculture, business, and environmental sciences.
- By the 2025/2026 academic year, BIST reported over 1,000 enrolled students and a growing number of employees, reflecting rapidly increasing demand for its programmes.
